Browsing Basics in Google Chrome

Google Chrome has become one of the most popular web browsers because of some powerful features. Before we get into those, though, let's cover the basics of using Chrome to browse the web.

Enter an Address

  1. Click in the address bar.
  2. Type an address and press the Enter key.

Chrome loads the website at the address you entered. Now you can view the page, and click links to move to other pages.

Go Forward and Back

Next to the address bar, there are some navigation buttons you can use to move backwards and forwards through your browsing history.

  1. Click the Back button to navigate backwards in your history one page.
  2. The last page in your browsing history reappears.

  3. Click the Forward button to navigate forwards in your history one page.
    Go Forward and Back
  4. Right-click the Back or Forward button to view a list of pages in your history.

More of this tab's browsing history is shown. You can select one of these pages to return to it.

Tip: You can also click the Reload button to load the current page again and see any changes that have been made since you last loaded it.

Open a New Tab

Each tab appears on the tab bar at the top of the window. In this case, we only have one open, so it appears by itself.

  1. Click the New Tab button.

A second tab opens, where you can start browsing other pages.
